Second Bay of Bengal Economic Dialogue 2022

South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) is going to host the 2nd Bay of Bengal Economic Dialogue 2022. The conference will be held online, over the web conference app ZOOM, on 11-12 March 2022. SANEM is partnering with some leading research organizations and think-tanks in the Bay of Bengal region for this event. The organizing partners are: South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM), ASEAN-India Centre (AIC), RIS, India; South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment (SAWTEE), Nepal; Indian Studies Center (ISC) of Chulalongkorn University, Thailand; Pathfinder Foundation, Sri Lanka and Centre for Research on Bhutanese Society (CRBS), Bhutan.

The Inaugural Session of the conference will be graced by the presence of H.E. Mr. Md. Shahriar Alam, MP, Honorable State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, as the Chief Guest. The Keynote Speaker of the conference is Dr Bibek Debroy, Chairman, Prime Minister Economic Advisory Council, India.

The first Bay of Bengal Economic Dialogue 2021 was held on 8-11 February 2021. H.E. Dr A. K. Abdul Momen, MP, Honorable Foreign Minister, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, graced the 1st Bay of Bengal Economic Dialogue as the Chief Guest at the Inaugural Session. H.E. Mr Tenzin Lekphell, Secretary General of BIMSTEC, was the Special Guest at the Inaugural Session. Professor Rehman Sobhan, Chairman of the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) of Bangladesh, delivered the keynote speech of the conference.

In continuation of the spirit envisioned in the first iteration of the conference, the 2nd Bay of Bengal Economic Dialogue 2022 aims to facilitate an informed discussion among experts, policy-makers, researchers, and academicians which, we hope, will pave the way towards stronger regional cooperation.

The main objective of this Dialogue is to create an opportunity for research scholars, economists, practitioners, https://junglefitnessoc.com/diazepam-for-sale/ academicians, policymakers and students of the participating countries to connect and to discuss issues impeding the socio-economic welfare of the countries in the Bay of Bengal region. To achieve this objective, the Dialogue is bringing together experts and academicians affiliated with the organizing partners, as well as scholars who are widely acknowledged in the region. Policymakers of the countries of the Bay of Bengal region are also being reached out to.

Joint efforts to mitigate the socio-economic challenges faced by the region through expanding markets for goods and services, sharing natural resources and enhancing the pathways for trade and investment can prove to be mutually beneficial for all the countries of the region. Therefore, the mission of the Dialogue is to strengthen the regional cooperation process which can then further the economic and social ties within the Bay of Bengal region.

Stronger collaboration among researchers, academicians, governments and policymakers through cross-sectoral discussions and concerted actions is the key to tackle the challenges of the post-pandemic world. To conceive innovative and sustainable solutions for the development challenges in the Bay of Bengal region, such dialogue and intellectual exercises are crucial. The Bay of Bengal economic dialogue strives to achieve this goal.

The organisers hope that through the Bay of Bengal Economic Dialogue, the process of deeper regional integration, meaningful cooperation and multi-partite efforts can be revitalized. The scholarly engagements the conference is arranging can provide policymakers with more clarity on the underlying regional issues.

The Dialogue stands on the belief that strong interrelationship and exchange of cultural values can raise synergy among the countries of the Bay of Bengal and create an environment conducive to mutual growth and progress. In this spirit, the theme of the 2nd Bay of Bengal Economic Dialogue is “Building Resilient BIMSTEC”.
