SANEM SDG Centre: Knowledge Enriching Talk on Labour Market from SDG Perspective
March 14, 2024 | 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM (GMT+6)
SDG Centre of South Asian Network on Economic Modeling(SANEM) is organizing a knowledge-enriching talk on “Assessing the Labour Market from the Perspective of the SDGs: Overview and Some Illustration from South Asia“. The talk is scheduled on March 14, Thursday, from 11 AM to 12 PM (GMT+6).
Bangladesh’s labour market has undergone significant transformations over the years, influenced by economic growth, industrialization, and social policies. The market is also a crucial factor in the country’s journey towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As Bangladesh strides towards economic progress, it grapples with the intertwined challenges of ensuring decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), achieving gender equality (SDG 5), and reducing inequalities (SDG 10). These SDGs underscore the need for inclusive job growth, fair labour practices, and the empowerment of all workers, including women and marginalized groups. The dynamics within Bangladesh’s labour market, characterized by a significant informal sector, evolving skill demands, and the gender wage gap, offer a rich context for examining how labour policies can be aligned with the SDGs to promote a more equitable and prosperous society.
This complex backdrop sets the stage for a lecture that delves into “Assessing the Labour Market from the Perspective of the SDGs: Overview and Some Illustration from South Asia,” where we will explore the interplay between labour market trends and SDG targets, illustrating with examples from Bangladesh and the broader South Asian region.
