SANEM Energy Outlook: Volume 1, Issue 4 | April 2025

The theme of the April 2025 issue is “Greening the Development.” The first page offers brief highlights of three articles featured inside the bulletin. The second, third, fourth, and fifth pages provide detailed discussions of these articles. The first article, titled “Green Growth in Bangladesh: Turning Climate Challenges into Development Opportunities,” emphasizes that green growth is essential for Bangladesh’s sustainable development. It calls for a shift toward renewable energy, sustainable industrial practices, and low-carbon urban planning. The article critiques the current fragmentation of policies and advocates for stronger international support, financial reforms, and a just transition to ensure inclusive and resilient development progress. The second article, “Green Jobs and the Renewable Energy Transition in Bangladesh,” explores the potential of green jobs in the country’s renewable energy transition. It highlights the need for policy reforms, skills development, and the formalization of employment structures. The article calls for the adoption of a national green jobs strategy to promote an inclusive, low-carbon economy, strengthen youth employment, and enhance climate resilience. The third article, “Green Financing in Renewable Energy Transition,” addresses the financing challenges Bangladesh faces amid declining domestic gas reserves and rising energy import costs. It argues that scaling up green finance is crucial for a sustainable renewable energy transition. The article emphasizes the need to expand the use of green bonds, blended finance mechanisms, and institutional reforms to unlock investment and achieve Bangladesh’s ambitious clean energy targets. Finally, the sixth page presents eight figures illustrating the current state of the energy sector—particularly developments and transitions in renewable energy—both within Bangladesh and in global contexts.
