The theme of the January 2025 issue is “Energy Transition in Bangladesh: Rethinking Subsidies, Renewables, and Efficiency”. The first page offers brief highlights of three articles featured inside the bulletin. The second, third, fourth, and fifth pages provide the details of these articles. The first article titled, “Significance of Redirecting Fossil Fuel Subsidies to the Development of Renewable Energy in Bangladesh” underscores the urgent need to redirect fossil fuel subsidies toward renewable energy development. It discusses how this shift can reduce fossil fuel dependency, ease fiscal pressures, and address environmental challenges. The article also highlights the importance of a structured, time-bound roadmap, institutional support, and financial incentives to drive renewable energy adoption, enhance fiscal sustainability, and achieve long-term economic and environmental gains. The second article titled, “Unlocking Bangladesh’s Wind Energy Potential: Challenges and Way Forward” explores wind energy as a vital solution for reducing reliance on fossil fuels and ensuring sustainable energy security. It highlights the necessity of tailored strategies, strengthened infrastructure, and supportive policies to overcome challenges and maximize Bangladesh’s wind energy potential. The third article titled, “Why Energy Efficiency Matters: From the Industrial Perspective” examines the role of energy efficiency in mitigating climate change, improving industrial competitiveness, and fostering economic and environmental sustainability. It emphasizes the need for coordinated efforts among governments, industries, and international partners to overcome challenges, foster innovation, and achieve sustainable growth by prioritizing energy efficiency in the industrial sector. The sixth page presents eight figures illustrating the current state of the power and energy sector in Bangladesh.
