SANEM Energy Outlook: Volume 1, Issue 1 | July 2024

SANEM proudly launched a quarterly energy bulletin named SANEM Energy Outlook in July 2024. The theme of the inaugural July 2024 issue is “Challenges of Energy Transition toward Green and Clean Energy”. The first page offers brief highlights of three articles featured inside the bulletin. The second, third, fourth, and fifth pages provide the details of these articles. The first article titled “Activating Bangladesh’s Wind Energy Resources”, highlights the significant untapped potential of wind energy in Bangladesh, exemplified by the Khurushkul project, the country’s first major commercial wind power initiative. This article emphasizes strategic advancements in wind energy, supported by favourable policies and technological progress, which could revolutionize Bangladesh’s energy sector by enhancing energy security and fulfilling environmental commitments. The second article titled “Existing Solar Power Plants and Future Prospects”, examines the current state of solar energy adaptation in the country and explores ways for further improvement. It addresses major challenges such as land acquisition and utilization, grid upgrades, and storage integration in installing both utility-scale and rooftop solar power plants. The third article titled “Energy Price Fluctuations and their Implications for Bangladesh’s Macroeconomy”, investigates the effects of energy price fluctuations on Bangladesh’s macroeconomy. It emphasizes the country’s heavy reliance on fossil fuel imports and the resulting vulnerabilities, advocating for diversifying the energy mix towards renewable sources to mitigate these economic challenges and stabilize the domestic market. The sixth page presents eight figures illustrating the current state of the power and energy sector in Bangladesh.
