National-Level Dialogue on Exploring a Sustainable Pathway for Bangladesh’s Energy Transformation Towards Green and Clean Energy
23 November 2024 | 10:00AM-01:00PM | BRAC Centre Inn, Dhaka
As Bangladesh strives to achieve a sustainable and resilient energy sector, transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy has become a national priority. To contribute to this vital goal, the South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) is hosting a National-Level Dialogue titled “Exploring a Sustainable Pathway for Bangladesh’s Energy Transformation Towards Green and Clean Energy.” This event will bring together policymakers, academics, and thought leaders to discuss actionable strategies for advancing Bangladesh’s renewable energy transition.
Objectives
This national dialogue aims to:
- Share Research Insights: Present findings from SANEM’s latest research on the economic, institutional, and financial facets of Bangladesh’s renewable energy transition.
- Enhance Collaboration: Facilitate discussions among stakeholders across the public, private, and academic sectors to identify synergies for advancing sustainable energy goals.
- Drive Policy Action: Empower policymakers with evidence-based recommendations that can shape the future of Bangladesh’s energy policies and economic development.
Key Components of the Research
The dialogue will feature presentations and discussions around SANEM’s recent research, organized into three core components that address the primary challenges and opportunities for Bangladesh’s energy transition:
1. Macroeconomic Effects of Energy Price Fluctuations: Evidence from Bangladesh:
This component explores how Bangladesh’s dependence on imported fossil fuels impacts its macroeconomic stability, particularly through factors like inflation, foreign reserves, and fiscal health. The study employs econometric modeling to analyze short- and long-term economic effects of energy price volatility.
2. Institutional Quality and Political Economy Dynamics in the Energy Sector:
This component examines the governance and institutional challenges that affect Bangladesh’s renewable energy adoption. SANEM’s research investigates how institutional quality can either facilitate or hinder renewable energy growth. The findings emphasize the importance of transparency, accountability, and competition in the energy sector.
3. Investment Needs for Transitioning to Renewable Energy by 2041:
Addressing the financial requirements for achieving a full renewable energy transition by 2041, this component estimates investment needs under various scenarios. By analyzing current RE infrastructure, global trends, and public-private investment opportunities, SANEM provides an actionable financial roadmap for Bangladesh’s green energy transition.
Who Should Attend
This dialogue is ideal for government officials, energy sector professionals, academic researchers, environmental advocates, students and members of the private sector invested in renewable energy and sustainable development in Bangladesh. By attending, participants will gain insights into the latest research, connect with key stakeholders, and contribute to a meaningful dialogue on Bangladesh’s energy future.
Join us at this impactful event to be a part of Bangladesh’s journey towards a green and clean energy future.
