7th SANEM Annual Economists’ Conference (SAEC) 2024

South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) invites papers for the 7th SANEM Annual Economists’ Conference (SAEC) 2024 on “New Frontiers in Development and Emerging Dynamics” to be held in Dhaka on 24-25 February 2024 both in-person and online.
SANEM’s Annual Economists’ Conference (SAEC) was initiated in 2016 and was met with great enthusiasm and appreciation from researchers, academicians, development workers and policymakers. In continuation of SANEM’s commitment to creating a platform for Academic dialogue and dissemination of knowledge, the 1st SAEC 2016 on “Bangladesh: Way towards a Middle Income Country” was held in February 2016, and subsequently the 2nd SAEC 2017 on “Managing Growth for Social Inclusion’’ in February 2017, the 3rd SAEC 2018 on “Leave no one behind in South Asia” in February 2018, the 4th SAEC 2019 on “Governing New Challenges: Inclusive Development, Trade, and Finance” in February 2019, the 5th SAEC 2020 on “Institutions for Development” in February 2020 and the 6th SAEC 2023 on “Building Resilience to Shocks: Priorities, Challenges and Prospects” in February 2023. These conferences brought together renowned economists, policymakers, academicians, researchers, development workers, journalists, and students. Enriched by presentations of extensively researched papers and in-depth panel discussions by various experts, the SAEC is a flagship event of SANEM.
Call for Paper Submission:
Papers should be relevant to any of the following themes:
• Emerging dynamics in global economy
• Labour market, migration and future of work
• Economic growth and development
• Environment and sustainable climate solutions
• Poverty and inequality
• Gender inequality
• Agriculture and food security
• Energy security
• Political economy of development and institution
• Education, health, and social protection
• Trade, connectivity and regional integration
The conference committee welcomes papers on the themes above, based on any specific country, or cross-country experiences. Both applied and theoretical papers that meet high standards of methodological rigour are invited. Any reproduction/extension of the previous study is eligible for submission. However, in the case of pre-published papers, the consent of the publishers should be provided.
Important Dates:
• Deadline for abstract submission : 30 November 2023
• Notification of selected abstracts : 20 December 2023
• First draft of paper submission : 10 February 2024
• PowerPoint presentation submission : 15 February 2024
• Conference : 24-25 February 2024
Format for Abstract Submission:
An extended abstract clearly outlining the objective of the research, a brief description of the methodology and expected research findings must be submitted. Interested researchers are requested to submit their extended abstracts along with a CV to sanem.conference@gmail.com by 30 November 2023.
Eligibility for Paper Submission:
People engaged in academics, economic research, and policy advocacy with an educational background in economics or related fields are encouraged to submit their research work. Master’s/4th-year students majoring in economics or related fields are also encouraged to submit their papers.
Logistics for International Paper Presenters:
.For international paper presenters, the conference organizer will provide partial funding for their participation in the conference in Dhaka. In the case of multiple authors, only one author who is designated to present will be provided with partial funding.

About SANEM:
SANEM (South Asian Network on Economic Modeling), launched in January 2007 in Dhaka, is a non-profit research organization registered with the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies and Firms in Bangladesh. It is also a network of economists and policymakers with a special emphasis on economic modeling. SANEM aims to promote objective and high-quality research in the areas of international trade, macroeconomy, poverty, labour market, environment, political economy and economic modeling. SANEM contributes to governments’ policy-making by providing research support both in individual and organizational capacities. SANEM has maintained strong research collaboration with global, regional and local think-tanks, research and development organizations, universities, and individual researchers. SANEM arranges regular training programs on economic modeling and contemporary economic issues.
