The Comprehensive Update of Bangladesh’s National Transfer Accounts (NTA) and National Time Transfer Accounts (NTTA)
Collaboration: United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)
Starting date: November 09, 2025
Completion date: May 09, 2026
Project description: The study aims to update Bangladesh’s National Transfer Accounts (NTA) and National Time Transfer Accounts (NTTA) using the latest demographic and economic data, recognizing major population changes since the previous estimates in 2016 and 2012. With Bangladesh experiencing rapid demographic shifts, including a growing elderly population, changing gender patterns, persistent youth unemployment, and rising but uneven female labour participation, the updated accounts will measure how different age groups produce and consume resources, value unpaid care work, and assess intergenerational economic flows. The work will support evidence-based policymaking by identifying lifecycle deficits, quantifying demographic and gender dividends, informing investments in health, education, and social protection, and assessing long-term fiscal sustainability. Under this study, SANEM, in collaboration with UNFPA, will generate updated NTA and NTTA, conduct policy analysis, prepare reports and policy briefs, and strengthen government capacity to institutionalize these tools.
