About the Conference
The Second South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) Annual Economists’ Conference 2017 will be held on February 18-19, 2017 at Brac Center Inn, Dhaka. The title of the 2017 conference is “Managing Growth for Social Inclusion” which is not only an integral part of global development agenda but also a major challenge for developing countries like Bangladesh. There is no denying the fact that rapid pace of economic growth is necessary for substantial poverty reduction. However, for this growth to be sustainable in the long run, it should be broad-based across sectors and should also ensure social inclusion. The idea of social inclusion emphasizes on the need for shared prosperity, and can thus be very instrumental in ending extreme poverty as well as reducing inequality within the society. Policies and programs for accelerated economic growth should therefore take into account promotion of social inclusion in the economic growth process. The core objective of the conference is to promote quality economic research among academicians, researchers, policy advocates, students and young aspiring economists at home and abroad.
