South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) Impact Assessment Centre is hosting a workshop on “The ABCs of Social Accounting Matrix (SAM): An Introductory Guide-Episode 1”. The workshop is scheduled for March 9, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (GMT+6).

The Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) offers a multitude of benefits, including a deeper understanding of macroeconomic policies, production structures, and economic interactions within and beyond sectors and institutions. It provides a structured framework for organizing data on households, firms, and government, facilitating socio-economic analysis. The Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) construction process ensures data consistency by reconciling information from disparate sources, making it a vital resource for economy-wide models.

Course Instructor:

The workshop will be conducted by Dr. Bazlul Haque Khondker, Chairman, SANEM. With over 27 years of experience in development economics and planning, Dr. Khondker has significantly contributed to the construction of Social Accounting Matrices (SAM) and Computable General Equilibrium Models for various countries, particularly focusing on analyzing poverty and income distribution impacts of trade and tax policy reforms.

Who can participate:

This workshop is open to students from undergraduate and postgraduate programs, as well as research professionals. Participants will have the opportunity to gain insights into the Social Accounting Matrix (SAM) and its applications.
