South Asian Network on Economic Modeling (SANEM) and ActionAid Bangladesh are conducting ongoing studies to assess the vulnerabilities faced by young people in Bangladesh, including limited access to public services, education, democratic spaces, and issues related to disabilities. These studies involve both qualitative and quantitative data collection, including surveys and desk research. The goal is to generate advocacy evidence to influence the national government and relevant ministries to allocate adequate budgets for addressing youth vulnerability and fragility. This includes areas such as resilience, livelihood, climate-induced migration, social deviance, education, and health. The findings and recommendations from these studies will be shared with various stakeholders, including government representatives, CSOs, and young people, through presentations and round table discussions. SANEM and ActionAid Bangladesh aim to publish a policy brief to advocate for youth-sensitive policies and resource allocation.

The objectives of this initiative are to facilitate a substantive dialogue among pertinent stakeholders regarding the primary vulnerabilities faced by young people and the incorporation of youth-sensitive elements within the national budget. This includes an assessment of key government policies and the level of youth-centric consideration within the 2023-24 national budget. Additionally, the initiative seeks to gather a wide range of opinions and recommendations from various relevant stakeholders to strengthen youth advocacy efforts.

In this context, SANEM and ActionAid Bangladesh will host a round table discussion titled “Addressing the Vulnerability and Fragility of Youth in Bangladesh” to be held on 4 October 2023 from 10:00 AM to 01:00 PM at Hotel Amari Dhaka. SANEM and ActionAid Bangladesh invite academicians, experts, development practitioners, policymakers, students and all interested individuals to participate in the event.
